When the capabilities of a piece of hardware are sufficient to manage all but the biggest tasks, like the AX32 is, the experience can be a little bewildering. While those restrictions are unpopular in software, in hardware they are expected. We are all used to thinking our way around the limitations equipment imposes on us.
Something I was very aware of when I was reviewing the AX32 was the flexibility and the lack of constraints you have when using a piece of hardware that can do so much. In the same way as a $30 drill will make all the holes necessary for you to put that shelf up straight, a laptop, some free software and a $100 interface will help you make your demo to a perfectly acceptable standard. If you want to get the job done and don’t want to spend too much money then there really has never been a better time to be involved in audio. We regularly say on the blog that there really isn’t much bad gear out there any more.
